Forest School

Our children love Forest School!

Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.

At Alder Tree we recognise the importance of our learning being linked to outdoor learning. Our children learn through real life experiences in our Forest School, where trained practitioners nurture learner-led exploration and discovery. We are extremely fortunate to have an outdoor classroom where our children can enjoy outdoor learning come rain or come shine.

Our Year Two pupils said:

"I love Forest School because I get to make things and drink tasty hot chocolate outside."

"Forest School is great because we learn about the names of leaves and we enjoy being outside together in nature."

We also work with Nature Friendly Schools. Nature Friendly Schools is a demonstration project which works to expand children’s understanding of care for the environment through outdoor learning.

Our children in Years 4 to 6 also have the opportunity to attend a range of residential trips which centre around being outdoors and learning outside of the academy.
